RCUK, or the Resuscitation Council UK, offers Immediate Life Support (ILS) and Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) courses for healthcare professionals.
These are life-support training courses for adults (ILS) and children (PILS), designed to improve skills in recognising and treating deteriorating patients and performing CPR and defibrillation in emergency situations. ILS certificates are valid for one year, and if a certificate is over 12 months out of date, the full course must be completed again.
ILS (Immediate Life Support) - Full course
Purpose: Teaches healthcare professionals how to manage deteriorating adult patients and perform CPR and defibrillation.
Skills Covered:
Recognising and treating deteriorating patients using the ABCDE approach.
Identifying causes and preventing cardiopulmonary arrest.
Quality CPR and defibrillation.
Effective team membership and leadership in emergencies.
Certification: A certificate valid for one year is issued upon successful completion.
PILS (Paediatric Immediate Life Support) - Full course
Purpose:
Equips healthcare professionals to manage deteriorating children and provide initial treatment until advanced help arrives.
Skills Covered:
The ABCDE approach for rapid recognition of seriously ill children.
Appropriate initial interventions for respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest.
Effective team skills in paediatric emergencies.

ILS Recertification (half day course)
Qualifications in ILS are valid for a year. If your certificate is about to expire, our ILS recertification course is the perfect solution.
This half-day course will refresh your knowledge and skillset in Immediate Life Support, guaranteeing you have the hands-on and teamwork skills needed to manage patients in cardiac emergency before a cardiac arrest team arrives.

ILS training is a one-day course that teaches life-saving skills to help you act as a first responder in an emergency
The course is suitable for beginners, registered healthcare professionals, and refresher courses
Life Support Training is suitable for doctors, medical students, nurses, nursing students, midwives, paramedics and student paramedics, physiotherapists, dentistry professionals and other health and care professionals. It may also be suitable for fire service technicians, police personnel and prison officers.
An ILS certificate is valid for one year
For ILS courses, pre-course MCQ can be taken as many times as you wish.
The pre-course MCQ results do not count towards the final course results. However, candidates are encouraged to complete the assessments in preparation for the face-to-face part of the course. The faculty of the course may review the results in advance to support the candidate.
